Two decades after her death, her passion for actress Silk Smitha is still alive. Silk Smitha alias Vijayalakshmi Vadalapattala, one of the most sought after actresses of the eighties and nineties, rose to fame in 1979 with her role as Silk in the film ‘Vandichakram’. Silk Smitha has acted in over 450 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. She committed suicide in 1996.
When Vidya Balan starrer ‘Dirty Picture’ was made in Bollywood in 2011, the producers said that many people were not happy with the content of the film and that it was based not only on Silk Smitha but also many other actresses. Although the late actor Vinu Chakraborty had planned to make a biopic about Silk Smitha, it could not be implemented before his death.
There was a recent news that Silk is planning a biopic about Smitha. Popular Telugu television presenter Anasuya Bhardwaj, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in ‘Rangasthalam’, is all set to play Silk Smitha in Silk’s biopic.
Anasuya shared a photo on her Instagram page confirming the news, “Living by another good story. New Beginnings Kollywood Tamil. With this, the fans are sure that Anasuya will be the same.
