Health Minister Veena George said that the Food Safety Department had inspected 547 establishments across the state on Wednesday. 48 establishments including 18 unsanitary and 30 unlicensed establishments were suspended. Notices were issued to 142 institutions. The minister also stated that strong inspection will continue. After the death of a nurse who was being treated for food poisoning in Kottayam last day, the Food Safety Department is conducting a comprehensive inspection in the state.
Minister Veena George claimed that in the last six months, nearly half a lakh tests have been conducted amid allegations that the Food Safety Department wakes up only when someone dies. She also stated in the press release that the Department of Food Safety is doing great work to ensure food safety in the state.

A fine of Rs 97.60 lakh was levied. As part of the legal proceedings, 149 institutions were closed. The Minister said that through the continuous intervention of the Food Safety Department, 82,406 establishments have been registered and 18,037 establishments have received licenses within the last six months.
